What happens in NH when the DMV requests an SR 22 or "proof of financial responsibility"?
NH Drivers can apply for insurance and once approved can receive an SR-22 from an insurance agent.
Simply stated, the NH SR-22 is a certificate that provides proof of car insurance.
There are several reasons why a driver may be ordered by NH DMV to buy auto insurance. The following convictions require filing proof of financial responsibility (SR-22):
- DWI - (1st, 2nd, Subsequent, and Aggravated).
- Underage DWI
- Leaving Scene of Accident.
- Conduct After Accident
- Excessive Demerit Points.
- Subsequent (2nd) offense Reckless Operation.
How long does someone need a NH SR-22?
For most drivers SR22 is needed for 36 months, in some cases (2nd DUI) it can be a 5 year requirement.
