Citing an improvement in the ability for NH residents to access the Health Insurance Exchange, via healthcare.gov, Commissioner Sevigny has ordered the NH Health Plan to close.
"Prior to the Gaurantee Issue mandate of Health Care Reform, The NH Health Plan served as a safe haven for those who could not qualify for coverage elsewhere," says Steve Donohue, NH Health Insurance Broker.
Since January 2014, PPACA requires NH health insurers to issue coverage WITHOUT requiring evidence of medical insurability. What this means is consumers who were once limited to coverage with the NH Health Plan now have another option.
"I understand why some NH Health Plan members are upset." Says Mr. Donohue. "With the NH Health plan they have access to a larger list of providers AND the NH Health Plan RX formulary worked better for some."
"I have had a few NH Health Plan clients call to complain that Anthem's new limited network products available on the exchange did not cover their doctor." Says Mr. Donohue, "I agree with the Commissioner that the exchange has improved, but this does not mean that the products offered there will be a perfect fit for all NH residents. I do remain hopeful that in 2015 the exchange will offer more insurers and more choice to the NH health insurance consumer."
